Adult Squads

Casual Squad sessions are also offered to adults who wish to improve their fitness, whether it be to maintain a healthy lifestyle, or train for their next triathlon.

Focuses on the adult swimmer, surfer, triathlete or water polo player. Adults must be capable of swimming at least one kilometre of freestyle. Emphasises is on fitness with up to three-five kilometres being completed per session. Session runs for 90 minutes.

The following timetable is for Masters squad at Sutherland Leisure Centre only. Sessions are 1.5 hours in duration.

Maroney Swim Team Senior Competition Squad

Gold Squad

The Gold Squad is for our National Age and Open swimmers, 13 years and over, who are dedicated to the sport and have personal ambitions to compete at the highest level in swimming/ Surf Life Saving/ Triathlon. This squad is a performance-based squad, and it is recommended to attend 6 sessions per week.

Silver Black Squad

The Silver Black Squad starts to increase the intensity and duration of training, whilst strengthening the foundations of competitive technique and skill. Swimmers are exposed to numerous competitions throughout the year and should be aiming to achieve state, metro and METSEA qualifying times. This squad caters for athletes primarily aged between 8 and 13 years of age.

Silver White Squad

The Silver White squad increases in intensity and duration building on the foundations of our Bronze groups. This group has a focus on swim fitness, endurance, stamina and technique. Silver White is suitable for swimmers looking to improve and continue swimming as an aerobic training base for all sports.

Bronze Blue Squad

The Bronze Squad is for swimmers who’ve mastered the basics and are ready for squad training. We focus on refining technique across all four strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Swimmers learn body positioning, breathing, and stroke mechanics to improve efficiency and speed, building confidence and competence in every stroke. Whether aiming to compete or simply enjoy swimming, this squad is the ideal starting point for a well-rounded foundation.

Bronze Black Squad

The Bronze Squad is for swimmers who’ve mastered the basics and are ready for squad training. Surf / Triathletes

The Surf/Tri Squad is for high school multi-sport athletes and open competitors. Training targets endurance, speed, and race strategy specific to each athlete’s primary sport. Sessions focus on stroke technique, fitness, and skills, with tailored challenges to meet individual goals. Recommended 4-6 sessions per week

Masters
Open to all sports wanting to keep fit and improve their skills. Recommended 3 - 5 per week
